FortiGate
Next-generation firewall platform and the control point for many Fortinet secure networking designs.
Overview
FortiGate combines NGFW security, routing, VPN, SD-WAN and Security Fabric integration on FortiOS. InManDis focuses on operational design, deployment and troubleshooting rather than marketing copy.
Architecture
Use FortiGate as a security enforcement point, SD-WAN edge or hub, and — where appropriate — the FortiLink controller for FortiSwitch and FortiAP infrastructure.
Use Cases
Internet edge, segmentation, IPsec/SSL-VPN, branch SD-WAN, SD-Branch, campus control, hybrid cloud connectivity and Security Fabric integration.

Troubleshooting framework
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1. Symptoms | Write down exactly what is failing, affected scope, start time and last known-good state. |
| 2. Health | Check CPU, memory, interfaces, HA/control-plane status and recent configuration changes. |
| 3. Path | Validate L1/L2/L3, routing, policy, session state and dependencies in that order. |
| 4. Logs | Correlate system/event/traffic logs with packet captures and targeted debugs. |
| 5. Version | Check release notes, known issues, compatibility and lifecycle before assuming configuration error. |
Version lens
Not every Fortinet product follows the same release numbering or support matrix. Treat 8.0/7.6 as navigation lenses, not a blanket compatibility statement. Verify the specific model and management combination in official documentation.
